Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

The Rise Up Culture Counseling, PLLC is owned and operated by Dr. Moriah Thomas who specializes in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a simple but efficient therapy using bilateral stimulation (BLS) ─ tapping, auditory tones, or eye movements ─ to accelerate the brain's capacity to process and heal a troubling memory or negative message. BLS, which occurs naturally during dream sleep, causes the two halves of the brain to work together to reintegrate and heal the memory. Clients can experience relief or positive effects in just a few sessions.

EMDR is effective in alleviating trauma-related symptoms, whether the traumatic event occurred many years ago or yesterday. It gives desired results –with little talking, without using medication, and requires no “homework” between sessions. Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for the treatment of post-traumatic stress, phobias, panic attacks, anxiety disorders, stress, sexual and physical abuse, disturbing memories, complicated grief, and addictions.

Possible Benefits of EMDR:
  • The memory is remembered (retained), but the painful emotions, physical sensations, disturbing images, and thoughts are no longer present.
  • EMDR helps the brain reintegrate the memory and store it in a more appropriate place in the brain.
  • The client’s own brain reintegrates the memory and does the healing.

Faith-Based Integration in EMDR Therapy

While Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapeutic modality, at The Rise Up Culture Counseling, they integrate Biblical principles, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit into the healing process when welcomed by the client. EMDR at this practice may include moments of prayer, reflection on Scripture, or discussion of how God’s truth relates to the memories or beliefs being processed. You are encouraged to participate at your own comfort level; spiritual integration is always invitational and client-led.

If at any point you prefer to receive EMDR without faith-based integration, or if you later decide to withdraw consent for this approach, your counselor will respectfully provide referral options for EMDR services in a non-faith-based setting. This ensures that treatment remains consistent with both your preferences and the mission of this practice.

Investment

Sessions are $230 for 80 minutes. Typically 6-7 sessions are recommended with more sessions added on a case by case basis. This structured approach allows for targeted EMDR work within a clear and intentional timeframe.
