You’re a Lion That Forgot You’re a Lion

Dec 8 / Drew East

Dear Rise Up Family...

Imagine being a full-grown lion — muscles rippling, mane glorious, jaw capable of taking down anything with a pulse — but you’ve lived most of your life in a cage.

In License to Roar, I shared a vision the Lord gave me:
A lion finally released into the wild… yet trembling like a housecat trapped in IKEA.
Instead of roaring, hunting, or exploring, he hides. Why?
Because he doesn’t know he’s a lion.

He fears imaginary predators — not realizing every creature within miles is terrified of him.
He’s powerful, but unaware.
Liberated, but still thinking like a captive.
Free, but living like he’s not.

Sound familiar?

Most believers carry lions’ DNA but housecat mindsets.
We feel small because fear lied long enough that we assumed it was truth.
We assume danger in places where God has already given us dominion.
We beg God for power while forgetting He already placed resurrection inside us.
Here’s the beautiful twist:
The moment the lion remembers who he is — everything changes.
His roar returns.
His stride strengthens.
The jungle responds.

And the same awakening is happening in you.
God isn’t trying to make you powerful — He’s reminding you you already are.

You are not fragile.
You are not insignificant.
You are not who your past said you were.

You are who God crafted you to be — a lion with authority, strength, and a voice that shakes the spiritual world when you use it.

It’s time to stop seeing yourself through captivity’s lens.
It’s time to rise with the boldness of someone who realizes heaven dwells within them.

Scripture
“In all these things we are more than conquerors…” — Romans 8:37

Truth
God has already placed lionhearted strength in you. Your roar awakens when you agree with His view of you.

Activation
Ask Jesus:
“Show me one aspect of who I really am in You.”
Write whatever surfaces — don’t filter it.

Prayer
Father, thank you for being such a wonderful Creator. Thank you for making me. I choose to receive that you did a good job making me. I surrender all to you, God. I ask that you break every lie that shrinks me. Replace my old identity with Your truth. Teach me to walk like the lion You made me to be.

Declaration
By the grace of God:
I am a lion.
I am strong in the Lord.
My roar carries heaven’s authority.
